I just meant, that with new experimenters on the list, it would be bad to
discourage them from using what is available.

It is true that Radio Shack does not provide as high quality parts as a
specialty supplier, but there is no "shame" in using them, if that is what
is available.

Even professional engineers run out to Radio Shack if they are in a hurry.
There is also a true story about Radio Shack parts being used in a missile
guidance system for the military. The engineers got fired for using
non-military parts, but the system worked.

Go ahead and use Radio Shack parts when you start out experimenting, you can
buy from better suppliers when you get further along.
