Might also be a good idea to look at laser marking job shops. No real tooling 
setup involved, and some of the laser marking software packages accept some 
standard file types (I forget which ones), so you might be able to create 
your own file and just give it to them on a floppy along with the panel to be 
done. alt.lasers might be a good place to ask about this. Details are no 
problem at all with modern systems..I've seen greyscale photopgraphs done on 
anodized Al with a Nd:YAG setup.
