Don't forget that one of the main uses of those series resistors is to
prevent high frequency oscillation. The high capacitance to ground in
screened cable systems tends to make the op-amp's output scream at MHz.
Non inverting amplifiers tend to suffer more than inverting, the voltage
follower being the worst. Compensation is possible, and a combination of
compensation and output termination is probably best.
