[sdiy] power line transient protection

I connect all power to a single common wire that I physically unplug from
the wall when not in use.  The remaining external connection is the phone
wire that connects to the computer which connects through the optoisolators
to the sound makers.  I'd like to put in an old fashioned knife switch type
triple pole switch and maybe a soft on circuit.
