Without seeing them, those calculators MAY have photoelectric generators
on them (I have one here that doesn't work). 
But, a lot of confusion arises because people sometimes call those 
light dependant resistors 'photocells' too. (not me.)
More confusingly, you can make a light controlled CV generator from BOTH
of these, the flat black generator has a direct voltage out, the LDR has to be 
part of a voltage divider.

Hoping this isn't MORE confusing..
