[sdiy] SMT?

Naysayers say:

1) difficult to handle the parts by hand
2) parts difficult to identify (caps often unmarked... try back-annotating
THAT!)
3) no HOLES ??? do you use SMT jumpers ???
4) price (a lot of SMT parts are actually MORE expensive than the through hole)
5) hard to hand solder
6) hacks and whacks much harder
7) hard to probe...
8) magnifying glass or microscope required.

that said I'd like to add to the Yaysayers list as well... ;^)

1) no leads means extremely low inductance... could be a big plus in some
circuits... and a MUST for RF....
2) If circuits are built on a ground plane board, noise immunity can be very
good.

I'm sticking with through hole for the time being. Let us not forget the
technique
one known in the USA as "jap stack"... named after the billions of transistor
radios
sent to our shores !!! This is mounting the resistors vertically, hairpin style.
I'll bet if
I pick this technique I'll give the SMT a run for the money !!!

Now if I was building a through hole cell phone... well at least you could not
bitch
at me... no one could DRIVE and talk on my phone at the same time (they could
not
hold it in one hand)....
