I feel compelled to dis this circuit every time it comes up since I
bought one, built it, it worked like crap, I tweaked it like crazy, it
still worked like crap, and eventually I gave it away. I did learn a
lot in the process. It's so complicated that the circuit description
written by the designer has lots of misunderstandings and I'm quite
sure the connections to the diode rings are not made in the right way.
I got at least an order of magnitude better carrier rejection when I
rearranged the diode rings, but it still sucked.
