even though 1 Mohm is the preferred input impedance for electric guitar with
passive pickups there are exceptions: the Fuzz Face distortion box has
extremely low input impedance, so low that most players feel that they have
to back off the vol pot on guitar a bit to get better sustaining notes.i
think 200-300 kohms is enough for most purposes, so you can use an invertin
opamp configuration. lowering from that might be ok and your guitar also
becomes less sensitive to emi. it would be interesting to build a device
which is just the input impedance controller. it is easy to build, connect a
1 mohm pot from signal to ground and use the pot to adjust the load to
pickups. anyway, you can usually go wrong if you have as low as possible
output impedance and high input impedance. some guitar pedals don't have
that low output impedance though.
