[sdiy] printing large schematics

I haven't had experience printing large images.  I tried printing a
couple of the large schematics at various diy sites today.  I expected
that Netscape would break the large image files into pieces for printing
(silly me!)  I did get a number of pages printed for each image, but
there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to them; "pieces" were missing.
What do folks use for printing these large images?  Is there a package
out there that "slices and dices" image files for printing?
