Devices like the 2SC1583, MAT-01,02,03,04, LM394 are fabricated
on the same substrate. They are more than just selected transistors
in a common package. These are "matched" transistors. The 3046 is usually
pretty well matched because of the common substrate, though it is loosly
spec'd.
The others are just "dual" transistors. They may have been matched
or not.
For good expo converter performance, use monolythic pairs like the
2SC1583,....
