I'm in the Boston area, and there are a couple of places out here that I
visit if I'm desperate for things. The first is this strange little place
around the corner from me...I don't even know what it's called, and it's
hard to make their M-F 9-5 hours when I'm working, but the times I've made
the effort, they have had what I wanted. So start in the Yellow Pages,
under "Electronics, Retail," I think.
There are some larger places, too. There's You-Do-It, just off Rt128 in
Needham or Deadham. They have a fairly full selection for a store, but
really high prices whem compared to the catalogs. There's also
Future/Active, with stores all over the place (Cambridge & Woburn off the
top of my head). Somewhat limited stock on hand, but a fairly full catalog,
and a larger distribution organization behind the scenes.
And if I'm really desperate, I'll head to one of the many Radio Shacks. I
think you'll probably find both the 3904s and 50K pots there. Not to
mention the karaoke mics with the built-in reverb!
