I recently built a little triangle LFO expressly for the purpose of
evaluating op amp output saturation levels. These are the results for
the particular units tried. About 12 different op amp types were
tested, with two or three of each. Testing was done at +/-15V and +/-
5V. To sum up the results, the SHARP IR9022 was the best performer for
symmetrical swing about zero volts. Worked well at both supply voltages.
This was the op amp that Roland/BOSS often used in it's triangle LFO's.
Motorola TL072's were reasonably good, but exhibit a weird curvature of
the clipping waveform. TL082's from a different manufacturer showed
asymmetrical clipping. AN6552, LM1458, MC1458, NE4558,JRC4558, uPC4558,
LM358 also showed 0.5V - 1V asymmetry. Motorola TL072 wins out over the
IR9022 if low input bias current is a consideration.
