Hi Juergen..thanks very much for your nice comments. Indeed you raise
questions and concerns about building such clones that I had already
thought about to some extent..and infact I was thinking of raising it with
other members of the list. I guess as you say its one thing to make clones
of synths where the company has long since folded (like Arp for example),
but another when the company still trades and makes
equipment. As far as I know EMS stopped making synthi A's because the
supply
of cases has run out.
But even so I think there is still the moral question of whether we should
make clones even in this situation.
I wonder what people on the list think?
Certainly I admit that at some stage I felt a bit uncomfortable with the
fact that my clone looks quite like ..well, a synthi A. Even this aside
there is the more delicate issue of use of schemos etc.
Anyway I certainly dont want to put you on the 'spot' ..but your synthi
clone has been influential to me. I defintely have NO intention of putting
any EMS schemos on the web that aren't there already!
But I guess these are all serious issues. Perhaps ultimately we need Robin
Wood to tell us what he thinks on this subject? I did ask him some time
ago
what he thought about me making some of the circuits from the
service manual. He said he wasnt that happy ..but that if it was for
personal use ..it was ok. I am not sure what he would think of my clone.
best regards, steve
