For anyone interested, I have a chart that lists the tap points
for up to 40 shiftregister stages.

Go all the way to the bottom of the page.  There's also a
schematic of a 24 stage job that I built.  This one won't
repeat for a long time.  Note:  I actually have a "reset"
switch on the clear lines of the shift registers.  I've only
needed it once that I can remember.
