fs = f = f = sampling frequency
s sampling
Thus, 128fs is 128 * fs or put in another way, 128 times the sampling
frequency. It's just a ugly shorthand. I'm sure you can figure out 256fs from
this reasoning.

Both are serial formats, but where SPDIF is line encoded the "128fs i/o"
serial format contains clock, word clock and data. The word clock is required
for bit/word synchronisation. It should be pretty obvious from the datasheets
timing diagrams for instance on how to interprent these.
