The first thing to do is open up that MG-1, and scrape out the gooey mess of
foam that's just behind the front panel.
Originally, this stuff was put in there to keep things from falling through
the slots and into ythe sliders. However, since it was new, the stuff has
turned into a nasty, flaky, sticky mess. It spells disaster as it falls
into the sliders.
So scrape it out...if you want to replace it with something to try to keep
stuff out of the sliders, get some clear plastic overhead transparency film,
and cut it to fit. Covering it when not in use will also help.
After that, you can worry about what to do to the affected sliders, possibly
replacing with noew ones, or sleaning them...there are some commercial
products for cleaning sliders, which probably vary with where you are. TV
tuner cleaner might do the trick, if you can get it.
