Moog VCF Transistor Matching Question

Well, Mark, if that's what they were doing, they were being pretty sneaky 
about it, because they made a point of putting a dab of paint on the top of 
every transistor in the ladder, as if to say "these are all matched" (even on 
very late-series Minimoogs).  I'm not doubting your word, though.  It would 
certainly lower their costs and time expenditure.

My friend Tim Caswell, who is the designer of all the Studio Electronics 
synthesizers (SE-1, ATC-1, OMEGA-8 polysynth), has told me that they match 
each of the 10 transistors in their ladder filters, using the same circuit 
found in the Moog service manuals.  He also said he's not sure how much 
difference it makes...
