If there is already a microprocessor in the system, might as well make use of
it. And these days, with the price of pics, it might even be justified even in
these cases. But...for the system I was doing it did make a lot of sense. There
were 4 ADSR's, that used a total of 8 analog voltages (requirement in this
particular system was that all parameters could be changed via a computer
interface). If the ADSR had been done in a more standard way, 16 analog voltages
would have been used. It was a nice minimal component solution to a specific
problem.
