Agreed, you dont..
but now make the discrete one programmable..
then polyphonic..
With a micro its just a little more code...

Im hopeing to do my EGs kinda like the memory moog ones (micro/ota/cap), so
I still
get the nice analog slope (no steps) but get rate/level control and
programability.
