i'm 28 and i just bought a Klaatu double album on CD and i love it. it seems
that in it's day prog rock required a pretty open minded listener. so if
people were open minded enough to accept prog rock then, what the heck
happened to give many of them such a jaded view of modern forms of
experimental music now? and why do they insist upon being publicly obtuse
about it? sure, i could go off about how cheesy or corny prog rock sounds
today but it's not cool because i know that at the time the prog rockers were
pushing the envelope - they were pioneers and i respect that. it's the same
story with todays experimental electronic music performers. they are pioneers
too. i find Radiohead's new album to be full of imagination, subtlety, texture
and tastefull artistry. one of the most worthwhile releases i've heard lately.
but just because i'm so amped up about it doesn't mean i won't try to
appreciate something older and i'm certainly not going to trash someone's
sensibilities because they have a different frame of reference.
if petty snobbishness is what makes you tick then please, keep it to your
self. i subscribed to this list to learn about building synths from the diy
masters here, not to have my musical sensibilities trashed.
