I had no trouble retrieving these with an FTP client. OTOH my browser
(iCab) went crazy. The uncompressed images are HUGE--much, MUCH
larger than the GIF file! I think the main problem folks are
experiencing is that their browser can't display these huge images.
Change the images to monochrome bitmaps and resave them as GIF's.
Right now they're in 8 bit indexed color which is wasting an extra
seven bits on every pixel. This will drop the raw image to one-eighth
its size. Also, you should set the resolution to 600 DPI (right now
it's 72).
These scans look great. You might consider doing this sort of thing
at 300 DPI in the future, which would drop the image to one-quarter
the size.
