could use a 10 turn pot with a large pulley attached.. suppose a 3cm dia
pulley, this would be approx 10 cm circumference, so 10 turns of this =
1metre... or even a normal 300 degree [5/6 of a turn] turning pot.. 50 cm
300 deg would give a 60 cm circle circumf. which would be a approx 20cm dia
pulley on a normal pot. or you can get really long sealed sliders which look
like mini hydraulic cylinders used in industrial apps.. or a spring attached
to a strain guage? sliding metal plate acting as variable capacitance in a
theremin stlye setup? optical sensor?
cheers,
Dan
