Hrm, I think maybe a better way to look at a filter is subtraction, hence
subtractive synthesis which is based mainly on removal of frequencies for
the defining sound.
The rest is right on AFAIK.
But, next, what about envelopes? This is a tough one.. Never really thought
of it.
