memorymoog battery removal question

I have a memorymoog plus with a bad battery and I'm picking up the
replacement
tomorrow.  however the old one is bonded to the pcb in a white, gumlike
adhesive.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this battery out without
damaging the circuit board or the battery exploding on me?

I already tried wiggling the battery loose wearing a rubber glove, and
I'm lucky
I did.  I didn't think it was leaking, but it ate a hole through the top
of one of the
gloves fingers.  yikes.
