convert TV/monitor to XYZ monitor

About the only thing you can do is to disconnect the yoke circuitry from the
TV chassis and to drive the two coils from an audio amplifier.
There is no real way to make it into an oscilloscope without a total
redesign of the circuitry. The reason for this is that the sweep of the TV
screen is determined by a resonant oscillator, not a timebase generator and
to do any sort of O-Scope display, you need to have it driven by a timebase
generator for the X axis and a DC-coupled amplifier for the Y axis.
Also, remember that the chassis of the TV ( at least in the US ) is
frequently at line potential. You are dealing with some incredibly lethal
voltages and if you don't know exactly what you are doing in there ( ie:
asking this kind of question in the first place <grin> ) then stay the hell
away - or at least have someone standing by at all times who knows
cardio-pulmonary resuscitation techniques.

Subject: OT: convert TV/monitor to XYZ monitor
Leaving semilurkng mode for awhile and I know this is kind of OT but this
is were the knowledge is.
I've done some "oscillographics" bye running to signals from various
modules into the X and Y of my oscillocope. Synched oscillators and
ringmodulators can do wonders.
Now I want ot expand this to a larger screen and also make it into a XYZ
setup and my eyes fell on a computermonitor I have left over.
Does anyone know of any online schematics or an articel on how to convert a
teve or monitor to a XYZ-monitor?
I have some old Elektor articles from 1978 were you draw oscilloscope like
curves onto a normal videomonitor but it didn't provide X-control which is
crucial here.
The straight CV into XYZ setup is very lowlevel approach to draw lines
onto a CRT so maybe I heading the wrong way? Is it perhaps better to try to
find some modules that draws these line in a normal color-tv video signal.
It would allow for expanded mixing and interacting with other video
equipment. But that would quite possibly also include microprocessing,
framebuffering etc and I'm kind into the analogue thing right now.
http://www.AudioVisualizers.com/ has a lot of info, articles and a few
suggestions on schematics but none of it is what I need right now.
any hints, suggestions, books, articles? I'm all ears.
