OT(?) germanium transistors

What about a parallel combination of 'diodes and resistors' in series?
Much in the same way we create the sineshaper circuits. You may have to
amp the signal up first to get the diodes to turn on. Or perhaps put the
diode/resistor combinations in a feedback loop of an op-amp. There is
something in Horowitz and Hill about this. They bias each diode with an
external voltage to control the transfer curve. A bit like a poor mans
interpolator really.

Of course, what we really need is a three pronged device that behaves
exactly like a Ge transistor... that may be more difficult. Ge diodes
are still available though.
