Hi!
I'm in the process of building my second Formant modular and i think it is
a nice and basic machine. It is a good starting point if you like to begin
building modular synthesizers, but you soon discover that it is somewhat
limited.
The nice thing about it is that you get all the schemos, front panel
layouts and PCB-layouts and then make what ever modifications you like.
You might want to keep away from the VCO though, it uses the hard to get
ua726 heated dual transistor.
I wish i had the knowlege to make a direct replacement circuit for the 726,
it is used in several of my old synthesizers and i'm afraid that one of
will fail some day...
I wonder if ti's possible to make such a circuit out of a MAT02 transistor
pair, an effect transistor and some sort temperature sensor?
Anyone??
You can download the Formant modular documentation and many other goodies
from Anders Spontons site ; http://omega.tellus.vallentuna.se/anders/
