  They can be; I've done it.  They need a temperature-compensated dual
matched (transistor) exponential converter in place of the linear V/I
converter w/scale trimmer.

  Like half my stuff, I probably did the mod and never made a schematic of
it.  I'll remove a 4720A from the rack this weekend and see what I
did...it has been at least 12 years since I tinkered with them.
