well i wrote about my roland rs 09 the other night, the buttons stopped
working after i took it apart and cleaned the volume pot. i had no idea what
was wrong with it. i checked all of the connecters, and they are firmly
seated. i decided to take the front panel off of the top circuit board and
check things out there. i notice that the buttons are on their own little
board that is attached to the main board, with ribbon connectors going from
both sides, to the bigger board (sorry, i can't explain myself)

i didn't see anything visibly wrong, and i reseated the ribbon cables and i
was pretty upset that this thing broke right after i got it and blah blah
blah. so, i managed to put it together somehow, it has these strange little
two piece peg things that hold the board on the front panel and they are hard
to deal with, and i put it all together, turned it on to make sure it still
sort of worked, and the buttons started working, only i can't get the
ensemble to work with the organ. when i turn the ensemble on with the organ,
the organ sound gets very faint and i hear a popping noise with the press of
each key............... and i also notice that there is an IC that gets very
hot, too.. and i'm wondering if it's normal or not. i know that some of them
get very warm with use. i don't know very much about electronics, but, i
sort of have a little knowledge. umm. the IC that gets hot doesn't look like
a "typical" IC, it's a dark grey color with a little metal rectangle plate on
the top of it.

i know i'm sounding incredibly retarded, but, i'm really trying to explain
myself.....

again, if anyone has any info on these, or any sort of suggestions, i'd be
very grateful..

jason
