Sandro,

Firstly, thanks trevor for the plug :-)

>i've got a chance to buy a used PPG 2.3 at a cheap price ( $ 250 ) . It's
mint ,

Well done!!! bargin price..

>but it doesn't work .

Uh ohh...
Hope your a patient guy, these are NOT easy things to fix..

>At the boot , the display "stepping" stops before to finish the first LCD
line . mmh ... it's actually bad ?
>Does anyone know which kind of problem i'd had to matter ?

Im assuming you mean that the cursor scrolls left to right, then goes to
second row scans left to right and then
back to the start?
if so its not too serious...

Ok Open up the PPG, four screws....

2 on either side at the front, do NOT take out the ones at the back..
The lid then lifts up and hinges on the two screws you left in at the
back...
be carefull there is an earth wire connecting upper panel to the case!.

Next take out the CPU board (look on my web page here
http://www.wavesynth.com/ppg/wave22.htm
its for the wave 2.2 but its almost the same thing). The CPU board is the
BACK one of the 4 (nearest the output sockets)
my picture is actually upside down <DOH>.
Make sure you know where the connectors came off and which way round they
went!!!!

now lay the CPU board flat (another picture of this board is on the same
page, again its a wave 2.2 but close enough)
and press in all the socketed chips, especially the EPROM chips.
reseat the board..
now for the PROZ board and voice boards, do the same thing...

This does two things, one reseats all the chips (which can work loose) but
also
reseats the four boards.. they have this GOD awefull connector that works
loose really easily..

>I'm not a technician , so do you think it's repairable without the
assistant of a NASA Ph.D. ?

It is but be carefull...
Proz boards are REALLY REALLY hard to fix!!!! I have one that has taken me
abut 2 months
so far... Ive now given up and have ordered a complete set of chips and Im
just going to replace the whole
lot, its quicker!!

For more info have a look here ;- http://www.wavesynth.com/ppg

There will be a Wave 2.3 tech page there soon..

Also goto the downloads section and get the factory presets for your synth
and bingo, you'll sound just
like Tangerine dream circa exit/logos and Gary numan circa Beserker.

If you need any more help,
Mail me off list..

Paul (I love PPG) Maddox
