small stone is phaser (there are at least two older versions and
new russian reissue) based on ca3094 otas 

small clone is chorus unit - smaller version of original chorus,
uses bbd (sad512 or 1024), 

so just they are two different things with close names

while ss is popular processing phaser for all instruments,
sc (afaik) is usually guitar stuff (I think Nirvana used it?)
