ASM-1 VCO testing (fwd)

Hi..
This is my first posting.
Nice to meet you everybody.
I have the same question.I recently built ASM-1.But it doesn't sound.
I tested before I setup whole.But I thought I don't need any cv input
source.Do I need any source to make any sound?
(I just connected wire from saw,square output to audio without any
cv)
And It sounded nothing.I thought I put something wrong.
