     Leds are coomon now because: they dont blow, theygive a high light o/p 
for
     low power, low vtg.. and can be brightness controlled easily if you 
want to.
     light bulbs power hungry, hot, prolly blow too soon if you always pulse 
them
     on/off like in an lfo, not to mention poor time response.. neons on the
     other hand have good time response, run cool, not too much power
     requirement, long life.. but you need abt 100V to ionize them... to run 
neon
     lamp :simple.. apply 100V or so thru a 100-500K resistor.
