This is true; I had both the plump & slim versions of C64 - the latter
didn't prolerpy reproduce sampled effects. More specifically, the click
was reduced not removed, so the samples played back, but attenuated and
even more bad sounding, ruining the original 'balance´ ;)

The most important aspect of the click was, however, that it's amplitude
was (roughly) proportional to sound volume, so you could even use 8 bit
samples. Wow!
