I use Amp Diplomate series... they are just tin plate (like IC leads).
They have very high retention force, which creates

1: a gas tight contact point ~and~
2: They hold the chips in like a chinese-finger-trap !!!

My company has uesd them for years in a hostile industrial environment
(high vibration, dirt, dust, corrosives...) No failures.

I would never use wimpy gold-plate screw machined sockets that cost
ten times the price... unless it was in a desktop computer, destined for
obsolescence in six months...

H^) harry

(is that Tubes, BBD's, and wimpy gold plated.......?)
