Perhaps if you went to the microsoft knowledge base (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp ) and did a search on 'shs extension'
you would find the articles explaining the internal use windows explorer
makes of this extension, and detailing the security fix provided for Outlook
when it was discovered that it caused a security vulnerability that could be
exploited by virus writers.
Not exactly hidden is it ?
If you want to use the world's most popular desktop OS, you have to expect
that it will also be the virus writers most popular desktop OS.
If you're going to use any OS on the internet, than you need to keep up to
date with viruses and potential attacks, and make sure you're using
protection software for both.
I run Norton Personal Firewall on my PC, and I see scans against my PC for
Back Orifice or other trojans a couple of times every day.
Viruses are the least of my worries.
If you ain't running virus software, than I have to assume you ain't running
a firewall.
It would take me 5 minutes to mail you an exe that will upload a trojan to
your PC, connect back to my server and start reading your hard disk.
The responsibilty for safe use of your PC lies with you, not MS.
Unless you're american, then if you crash your car, shoot your wife or get
cancer from smoking you get to sue the manufacturer.
And this has nothing to do with synth-diy...
