A was the highest grade, C the lowest, so they were substituting a better part -
no fraud there, and lucky for the purchaser. The reason why they did it had to
do with yields. If you've got an order for 10,000 grade C parts, and your wafer
yields look like 15% A grade, 20% B grade, and 5% C grade, you'll use higher
grade parts to fill the lower grade orders because you didn't get enough in the
lower grade category!. A's and B's sitting in bins don't make money!
