triangle oscillator cores and Buchla designs

Looking at the Buchla oscillator and the descrete OTA that TomG drew up
last year, I noticed that the Buchla 259's core is merely a descrete
version of the triangle oscillator in Electronotes (option 2? its the
first one in the Barry Klain book).

Anyway, is there any advantage to going descrete or should I just used a
3080 in my upcoming Buchla 259 clone?

has anyone build them both ways? (triangle oscilltors not Buchla 259s
that would be a little creepy)

Very curious.
