well even though you need a separate signal for CV and Gate, if you limited
the gate to go between 0 and 5 volts, then you could just use it as a
digital signal input and therefore only one A/D converter would be needed.
these limitations would be pretty simple to do with a couple of simple
voltage divider circuits using series resistors. The main thing that you
would have to consider is which synth you are sending the CV and Gate out
from. some synths send 10 V gate signals where others might send 8V. you
would need to figure out a separate divider circuit for each type of synth.
Next, you could use a microprocessor to program the Opcode to convert
the analog voltage to midi. You wouldn't need something too fancy - I would
recommend something like a Motorola HC11 or Intel 8080
those would do the job just fine.
