Embedded processors for DIY projects ?

Hmm... have been looking at their web site.... looks promising.

So far i have seen everybody recommending AVR products; noone
seems to use PIC´s. 8051 and derivatives are an option, but as i see
one has to struggle alot more to get them from various manufaturers,
so to me the AVR seems to be the logical choice, too.
I have done most programming on my HC11 in assembler, because when
i tried some freeware C compilers, the code was always becoming larger
than the 1 or 2 KB EEprom :(
I think i will see if i can get a STK200 kit somewhere here in germany,
and then try the CodeVision compiler.
