AW: Embedded processors for DIY projects ?

I normally use 8051 derivates as I have a lot of development tools for this
controller in the company I am working for and at home.

I also have an emulator so that software development works quite fine.

I built my last project with an Atmel 89S8252 which is a 8052 controller
with included Flash Eprom and EEPROM. Both of them can be programmed incircuit!!!
I use the Programmer Dongle from the Atmel STK200 kit for the AVR controllers and
another self built dongle with a freeqware software to progam.
So program updates can be done very easily inside the circuit!

I program the critical parts in assembler but most of the software in
PL/M which is similar to Pascal and produces quite efficient code.
I also have XTOOLS for programming which makes it easier: This is a structogramm
editor. You write your program into the structogramm graphics and the sourcecode
is made by this program. So you have a nice overview of your program (structure)
and you can not make structural errors as the begin/end, loop commands are
inserted by this tools.
But this tools is too expensive for home purposes... :-(

Ciao
Peter
