  I can, actually, because in 1987 I built a 'desk' that had a knob,
switch, LED display or LED for *every* programmable parameter.  It was
built as seven modules, one for each operator and a 'catch-all' panel for
the rest.  I sold the desk as a poor college grad paying off loans, and
regrettably never took a picture of the beast.

  I _did_ however build an extra 'operator' module, which looks like this:

  Now, just visualize 6 of these plus the 7th clean-up module all built
into an old DJ desk's sloping front.  The DX7 would then be placed on the
flat desk surface and jacked into the programmer.

  I would build this thing in a completely different manner today.  Maybe
