   No, not at all.  Most people don't have scopes.  However, you MUST 
have some sort of DMM nearby at all times!  It certainly is nice to have 
a scope when you are building because it makes troubleshooting ten times 
easier!  However, most of the problems you'll likely encounter will only 
require a multi-meter.
