I've been using Cakewalk and Cubase for about four years now, I'm looking for
the convenience and realtime song arrangement that comes with a program like
ReBirth's pattern sequencer. I'd like to be able to just create patterns then
lay them out, hopefully in real time. I don't see these programs fufilling that
need. Bram Bos' program Pump seemed like it could be what I was looking for,
but in the end I haven't seen anything but the unstable Beta version. Jazz+ is
nice, but still too much of just a sequencer. I use Cubase for audio recording,
I guess I've always thought of it as a super charged ADAT with effects for a
computer. The VST plug in synths are less than attractive in comparison to real
analog. I want realtime composition, not just another sequencer, it didn't
occur to how important this was until I went looking for it. Think about being
able to DJ midi loops like they were on records. So, maybe now I admit it just
hasn't happened yet? While I'm at it I'd like to be able to adjust the groove
quantinization in realtime too....
