It is certainly true, as Colin Fraser says, that resonance on the
BD can amp up residual hum to an alarming degree.
But, using ribbon cable for low level audio really is asking for
shit to happen.
You will find by painful experiment that there are one or more
lines there that ought to be sheilded. replace these with sheilded
wire, one end of the sheild earthed.
I have been there and done that, though not on this particular machine.
