I will tell you... you'd better buy a SL-1200, i think that it's an instrument itself. Besides it has some extra features that make it special and you could get an used one for a few little bucks, (and an Mk II is an Mk II :) ).
I think that a turntable is a too simple thing to customize, and there are other things more fun and better to build or modify.
It's just my opinion.

Yes, I'm trying to make it more SL-1200'ish.
Last time I looked, if I recall properly, the SL-Q200 had a label on it
saying "Quartz locked"...
We're (probably) in luck then, huh !

The speed may drift on you.
If you are trying to convert your Q200 into an SL-1200 your probably out of
luck. The 1200s use a quartz lock mechanism to keep the tables turning at a
specific speed and I doubt the Q200 has those electronics present.
