Back in the late 80's, when I was working as a repair tech at J.L. Cooper
Electronics, a customer brought in a Prophet V in an Anvil flight case, and
when I opened the case, I saw that all the foam on the inside of the case had
been seriously ripped to pieces. Later, I asked him what happened to the
foam, and he told me that he had left the case sitting empty and open on his
bed one day. Apparently, his cat had stepped into the open case and the lid
had fallen down, trapping the pitiful feline inside. The creature reacted,
as one might expect, by going medieval on the inside of the case, giving it
everything he could until his owner came and rescued him.
As an aside, I have repaired no less than four different instruments that
people have brought to me with cat pee damage. One was a Juno 106 that
needed an entire new analog board, so bad was the collateral chemical
carnage. Interestingly, not all of these customers were ready to admit (or
believe) that the problem had been caused by their cat. Nevertheless, that
smell is unmistakable. My own three cats (Spartacus, Rundgren, and Sammy)
know better than to mess with (or in) my gear. Instead, they destroy
furniture.
