Hi Tony,

I know I am responding to a month old post but I have been giving the
synth stuff a rest for a while, I was doing too much so I hung up my
soldering iron for a while and went skiing and mountain climbing
eventually finishing up in Amsterdam. I think my sanity may be returning?

I had quite a problem tracking down any suitable 'hardwoods' in the UK
which were affordable enough and looked good enough to justify my cabinet.
Quite offhandedly a friend suggested I use the pre cut 'mahogany' window
sills which are quite widely available from most wood yards. (not real
mahogany, generic, I have been jumped all over about this before) I
trimmed the machined curved bit off the from and spent a lot of time
sanding but I think the result looks great. I went into wood finishing in
some detail to get the look I wanted, varnish and lacquers just don't do
it for me, its a false finish. So I sealed the wood with Liberon finishing
oil (Tung oil) and then polished with Liberon Black Bison clear fine paste
wax polish. It took some time but looks great, much better than varnish. I
didn't stain either because I always think that looks false too.

Hope this is of some help

Keith
