Another thing which helps decoupling, used often in high performance power
amps and some digital/analog gear is star point earthing... ie instead of
using a ground plane , the ground point of the power supply has individual
tracks coming from it to each individual part of the cct [ie vco1, vco2
etc]... this works well because.. - each track represents a small but finite
resistance to ground.. but currents do nnot cross couple along each arm
because they all meet at the ground point... similar to the summing node at
an op amp really..
