clock divider idea

I once had a great little circuit from an old Electronic Design mag that was
a neat twist on the clock divide idea. I can't find it but remember the
circuit idea well. The clock input drove a binary counter whose outputs
connected to a resistor matrix making a staircase ramp voltage. This
staircase fed a comparator circuit whose gate out provided the divide out
and also reset the counter. The pot that was the other side of the
comparator could be replaced by a DC voltage and would still work. The
counter could be cascaded if a single counters resolution wasn't enough. You
could lift the Quantizer circuit from the Oberhiem Sequencer, add the
comparator to its output and get a decent range.
